ABOUT US

Frances Loom began in 2014. Born out of a love for design and with the hope of creating spaces that feel collected, layered, and full of soul.

Early days at flea markets and an allergy to all things boring led us to our current FL offering - historical, one-of-a-kind pieces, unique collections from artisans we love, and occasionally some bits of our own making. From furniture to art, candles, cushions, and of course, antique rugs, every single thing we sell is something we would have (or DO have) in our own homes.

We believe the best spaces are built layer by layer, collected over time with pieces that tell a story. The heart of it all - helping you feel in love with your home, over and over again.

WHY ANTIQUES?

Because they’re better! We genuinely think they are. In addition to being so good for the planet, they have a story, a soul. Nothing is better than a space that reflects who you really are (and looks great to boot). Choosing items that delight you, that make you feel something, and filling your home with them is the truest way to curate a space.

The skilled people (mainly women) who wove these rugs, 100 years ago, took months or even years to complete one beautiful design. The stories the designs tell, from different regions, using different dyes and materials - all natural - are individual - no 2 the same. The pattern and palettes were chosen or developed over time. Most of the fading we love is a natural evolution of the piece of art. The inclusion of floral motifs, animal motifs (our favorite), and even people tells a story that you can bring home and make part of your story.

HEATHER'S STORY

Hi, I’m Heather Kane, owner and principal designer of FL. I’m a lifelong and born aesthete (hello libra), and fell in love with interiors and renovation ages before it became my full-time gig. Formerly in tech, I finally made the jump into my passion project.

I’ve designed a lot of spaces that have been published and are some of FL’s most loved images on IG. But even as a maximalist, I needed an outlet for my “collecting.” FL is where I buy all the things I love and would have in my own house, but simply can’t fit them all and share them with you guys. Sometimes they do stay with me for a bit before I can give them up. But it’s a one in-one out policy these days!

I am still renovating spaces and you can follow that more closely @byheatherkane. I’m a bit more personal and you see a bit more of the behind the scenes there. Follow along if that’s fun for you.

So glad you’re here!

Meet Lexi

She is the driving force behind our small biz (and 99% of all the social media). She makes the FL world go 'round, and we'd be lost without her, but we do occasionally encourage outside interests and side-hustles.

She's a fine artist (@studio__deja), keen runner and avid wine drinker who just bought her first flat in London and is DIY'ing it up on her own (she lived without a fridge for 6 months!? what!??)

Lex is always up for a sourcing trip, especially if it's in her fav city, Paris. Frites is a common love language for Heather and Lex.

Meet Kjrsten

(pronounced Keer-stehn). KJ runs the US side of things - shooting and shipping. She keeps us all organized as best she can.

Heather and KJ have been friends since the noughties and both still love a good mix-tape. But KJ's real passion is photography (@kjrstenmadsen), and luckily, she can do it all. She's the proud mom to 3 grown ladies, but still keeps baby-doll Maxine with her for mountain runs, maybe more like walks these days.

KJ sends out the handwritten notes that come with each purchase - a little bit of love in every package.
